Raj received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, USA, in 2009, working under the guidance of Prof. Giuseppe Caire. Prior to this, he obtained the B.E. degree from the University of Madras, India, in 2003, and the M.Sc.(Eng.) degree from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in 2005. He works on the broad areas of Information Theory and Code Design for wireless communication systems.
Raj is a recipient of the 2006 Best Student Paper Award from the Department of Electrical Engineering–Systems, USC, an Oakley Fellowship from USC for the 2007–2008 academic year, and an honourable mention for the 2009 Best Student Paper Award from the Department of Electrical Engineering–Systems, USC.
