Our aim is to obtain an information theoretic confirmation of Gupta and Kumar's result on the transport capacity of ad hoc wireless networks.

The approach we take leads us to the study of determinants of large random matrices. My intention for the talk is to shortly explain how do we get to the study of determinants and then to spend some time on the mathematics that we have recently developed for analyzing these determinants. This is joint work with Emmanuel Preissmann and Emre Telatar.
